Collage Art

I love cut and paste collage. It’s a wonderful contrast to Photoshop and other digital design tools because the editing is always destructive. While digital design tools support experimentation and iteration, analog collage forces commitment to process and vision at every stage. There’s no un-cutting a piece of paper, and there’s no way to Save As for trying a crazy idea. Rubber cement allows some flexibility with repositioning and re-layering bits, but too much manipulation and the source material will show wear. This forces me to be decisive in a way that digital design – with it’s versioning and alt-z-ing – never strictly requires, but certainly benefits from.
